Charging in IN based Prepaid Service

Charging of Prepaid and Value added telecom services handled by Intelligent network servers is an intricate affair and needs to be understood well.

There are may open questions about the utility of various Call Data Records generated in the Switch and IN system and why, where and how to handle these.

As Pre-paid subscriptions became predominant, the right decisions enable great  saving in the  switch & Billing system dimensioning and operational cost.

To post process CDRs of Prepaid subscribers by billing system, it is necessary to build in all the applications and tariff plans adopted in SCP, in the billing system also, and updated every time changes are made in SCP. This is not feasible and  is considered a costly, time consuming and difficult task for the operator. This will also restrict the versatility and flexibility of IN charging features.
